Delve's Recommended Reading

These are a few of the books that opened our mind, expanded our world, and called us into action, here at Delve.

Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds by adrienne maree brown

The book that started it all. First read in a online book club formed around this group, it talks about the different ways that change happens and the skills, tools, perspectives, and grace needed to build the world we want to live in.

Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer

We are part of the natural world, and it sometimes seems like that is so forgotten. Observation, family, hard work, learning, right relationship, and so many more lessons from this book. We were recently gifted this authors new book: The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World. Looking forward to that read, maybe it will join this list.

Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

Fiction that doesn't feel far off. A story of vision through breakdown, and community building in times of despair. A thrilling read - with lessons that we can weave into our lives, relationships, and self-study.

Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We're In with Unexpected Resilience and Creative Power by Joanna Macy and Chris Johnstone

A pivotal book for what to do when you feel tiny, powerless, and like hope is just meant to make you feel better and not much more. What it means to engage in Active Hope. The what, the why, the how, and beyond. Super recommend.

All We Can Save - an Anthology editted by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Katharine K. Wilkinson

From a variety of authors, the essays and poems throughout this book use a variety of tones and narratives to expand your understanding of different social/economic/environmental aspects of the climate crisis. We waited for the uplifting ending, but that's it - there isn't one, we make it ourselves. Recommended to read with a crew of friends to digest together.
